Bay to Breakers (B2B) Photography!

Last Sunday was the 98th annual San Francisco footrace known as Bay to Breakers. Originally started in 1912 as a way to lift the city's spirits after the devastating 1906 quake. It is one of the longest & largest footraces in the world. Average participants range from 60k to 90k. San Francisco broke the Guiness record book by having  a total of 110,000 participants in 1986! How cool is that? This race is all about community and health (seriously). I'm not sure how many of you actually know this but Breathe California is a big beneficiary to the Bay to Breakers race. BC is a local public health organization who's efforts are dedicated to the fight against lung disease and the promotion of cleaner air for everyone now and in the future. So everyone is encouraged to make a donation to that cause and to the 1500+ who help organize & produce the race for all of us to enjoy and partake in. Thanks to all of the volunteers and Breathe California!

However the B2B has also been labeled as the "drunk march". Cause well...it is also a race filled with tens of thousands who get dressed up in eloborate costumes, follow the actual racers and drink til they can march no more. Some of the most impressive costumes come from local artists who make their expected appearance and most other city street events. So show your support to those artists if you can spot them..think of it like a "Wheres Waldo" game.  This race is definitely a spectacle and is considered the kick off of all the fun events that take place in the city during the Summer, such Carnaval which starts today in the Mission Distict.

So today I leave you with a photo I shot & edited of B2B. I'll bring more B2B photography to you this weekend and follow it up with my Carnaval footage next week. So leave your comments and stay tuned as I bring you the latest in my world. Happy Carnaval everyone!

CLICK, SNAP, BAM!

Hey there ladies and gents! Rae here with this week's news! As rudysolis.com grows and establishes itself I'll be featured on specific days with fantastic themes to share with you. My favorite being "Up and Coming Artists". Would you like to hear about my first guest? Well...no..why ruin the surprise! Stay tuned as this news develops!

In the meantime I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you some tid bits about me. Ya know so we can get to know one another..me as a blogger and you as a reader...or stalker, psycho, freak which ever title applies to you.

As you know Rudy is involved with several different art forms such as writing, breakdancing and video production. Well I'm also heavily involved with the arts. By now you know I skateboard. It's been a love of mine since 1995 and the funnest sport I've ever participated in. In addition to skating I'm also a film student at the Art Institute of Califronia San Francisco, where I study digital film and video production. School at AI has been a life changing experience and I can't wait to share with you my work as my skills develop and blossom. Last but certainly not least, inbetween, school, work and life I also shoot as an amatuer free lance photographer. So tonight I'm gonna leave you with some of my work. This is exciting for me and a treat for you because the work featured tonight has never been published til now! So chime in and let me know what you think. And if you act now I'll be sure to send the first 20 commenters a free beach towel from Shermonom Vanhoffen's Liquor Super Store, located just down the street from my house absolutely FREE! You can't beat that can you?

For tonight's peek you get a shot I took at the Wharf here in San Francisco, more specifically in front of a bar/night club called Dirty Martini. Do you recognize that name? Well thats because it was the former host of the highly successful party night known as "Rudy Tuesday". Yes folks I was there. Featured in this photo are my good friends Dan (from the famous Par vs Dan video) and Josh Solorzano (from the famous fandango pic on page 4). Be sure to check back for more of my work and don't forget to chime in for your goodie! Til next time peace!

Thrashing the Thrasher vert ramp!

The real spectacle to admire at Thrasher's Bordertown Benefit was the rippers on the vert ramp. There was some impressive skating going on from the moment I reached the spectator area. Here is a virtual board "SMACK" from me to all that killed it that day! Skate on everyone! Peace.
